Florian Kohler, the owner and managing director of Gmund Paper, knows that “paper conveys emotion and inspiration.” In an era when digitization and high tech are becoming increasingly important, Kohler’s company creates successful products and timeless values. This year too, Gmund Paper introduces trailblazing products at the Drupa trade fair. Anyone who knows Gmund Paper also knows that Gmund doesn’t cater to trends: Gmund sets trends.

As the world’s most ecological material, paper offers nearly unlimited potential. But the quality must be right. Florian Kohler explains: “Printed communication calls attention to itself when it’s unconventional! But the message is perceived only when the printed product is truly special thanks to optimal paper, printing and design.” This visionary in the paper industry accordingly presents numerous new ideas and innovative products at the Drupa trade fair.

Gmund Blocker is one such innovation. Manufactured by a special vacuum technique, Gmund Blocker is the world’s best printable natural paper. It’s absolutely opaque so nothing shines through, even when the sheets are thin and light in weight. Gmund Extra, on the other hand, is an extremely beautiful, uniform, sleekly simple and natural paper that’s ideal for diverse uses. Gmund Paper also makes the world’s most beautiful 100%-cotton paper: Gmund Cotton is distinguished by a unique feel and comes in unconventional, unpretentious colors. The new Gmund Heidi is a rustic recycled paper for letterpress printing: it combines the best printing properties and a unique look.

The Gmund Colors system is another highlight this year. “The innovation here is that we’ve developed 48 mutually harmonized colors. Although the system contains only 48 colors, it’s fully complete,” Florian Kohler explains. Other color systems often have hundreds or thousands of colors, but Gmund Colors not only offers brands and customers the ability the find the perfect nuance, this system also enables users to combine different colors and thus create a strong recognition value.

Gmund Paper strives to find or specially develop optimal solutions for brands and customers—because people frequently underestimate the potential inherent in special paper. With its “Every Day” initiative, Gmund shows what’s possible in an exclusive presentation at the Drupa trade fair. Florian Kohler says, “With our ‘Every Day’ approach, we would like to show customers that Gmund’s papers are not only very special, but also very affordable. Paper is incredibly versatile and mutable: it can be a cosmetic package at 8 a.m., a visiting card at noon, and a printed menu to hold in one’s hands at dinnertime.” With “Every Day,” Gmund Paper shows how special papers can enrich lives and brands while simultaneously showing how printers and specialists can thrive and profit in a rigorously cost-driven industry.

Despite our momentarily challenging times, Kohler sees many possibilities for the industry’s future. “Paper offers much more attractive reproducibility for colors than a computer screen could possibly provide. And paper simultaneously conveys emotion, inspiration, and a unique aesthetic.” Kohler believes that the greatest potential lies in “genuinely ecological papers and effects that are unique but more likely to be discernible only in the details.” There’s every reason to be curious about the next bright ideas which Gmund Paper will soon transform into tangible realities!
