Sustainability Award 2015

Gmund Paper receives price

18. November 2015

The Münchner Oberland sustainability prize was awarded for the fifth time by the local marketing association of the Miesbach district and the Oberland commercial forum. The commendation was conferred this time on Gmund Paper in recognition of its outstanding sustainable manufacturing methods.

Gmund Paper has blazed new trails with its Environmental Charta, which was developed by the environmentally responsible papermaker. Up to 75% of the factory’s energy is produced by Gmund Paper’s own power-heat cogeneration system, which generates electricity from water power and solar energy. The cellulose comes from certified sustainably managed forests. A waste-prevention initiative successfully reduces residual refuse to less than 2%. And the water for the manufacturing process can be reused up to seven times thanks to a state-of-the-art ozone-based water treatment system.

"Innovative methods and technologies have enabled us to pursue entirely new paths for generating our energy during the past several years. Up to 75% of our electricity is produced from regenerative energy and 50% exclusively from water power. That’s a big step for us and a trailblazing innovation in the paper industry," owner and CEO Florian Kohler explains. Gmund has invested in environmental technologies for more than 25 years.

Every paper produced by Gmund earns the Gmund Eco Certificate, which complies with the guidelines specified by the Environmental Charta.
